You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" outlining the expected cost of your medical and mental health care. Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers are required to provide an estimate for services, including psychotherapy, if you do not have insurance or are not using it. This estimate covers the total expected cost of non-emergency services. You can request a Good Faith Estimate from your provider before scheduling any services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge. It’s important to save a copy or take a picture of your Good Faith Estimate for future reference.
